Violinists Hina and Fiona's New Album, "Dear to Us"
Joined by pianist Rohan De Silva, the VC Artist duo released their debut album on Pentatone
Violinist duo Hina and Fiona have released their debut album, Dear to Us, on the Pentatone label.
The sisters, who are joined on the album by pianist Rohan De Silva, feature a dynamic program of music by Johan Halvorsen, Maurice Ravel, Manuel Ponce, Pablo de Sarasate, Moritz Moszkowski, Eugene Ysaÿe, Miklós Rózsa, and Anna Clyne. While the album's focus is primarily on repertoire for two violins, both sisters perform solo repertoire as well.
"Dear to Us is an introduction to us: our journeys both as individuals and together," Hina and Fiona wrote. "Through this album, we would like to take you on a voyage through time and nostalgia, across pieces we grew up with, as well as other works we hope to unearth and explore together."
The album's emphasis on showcasing beloved staples of the violin repertoire alongside lesser-known contributions reflects the sisters' shared, and differing, artistic voices.
"Despite our almost identical upbringings and journeys in music which have equipped us with our foundations of playing, we have always pursued our own artistic visions and prioritized our unique passions," they wrote. "As a result, each of us has developed her own personal taste and authenticity, which is the core of what makes it interesting to play with one another."
