The post Wittner Releases New "Float on Air" Rest System appeared first on World's Leading Classical Music Platform.

]]>
Wittner recently released a new chin and shoulder rest for violins, titled the "Float on Air" System.

It combines a free-floating shoulder rest with a flexible chin rest that can be individually adjusted in height and inclination.

Combined, the system allows for enhanced sound development and vibration of the instrument.

The system is pre-mounted and easy to attach to either a 3/4 or 4/4 violin.

Weighing 99 grams and made out of anti-allergenic materials, it is around 25% lighter than conventional combinations of shoulder rest and chin rest.

The shoulder rest can be flexibly adjusted at two points for optimum support and comfort, while the arm and padding can be easily removed and reattached.

"The Wittner shoulder rest and the Wittner chin rests are constructed to work and being combined easily together," Patrick Schönherr from Witter told The Violi Channel. "All parts are technically and material wise coordinated with each other. So it was obvious to offer a ready to play combination."

"Mount it on the violin and try out some positions. You will shortly find the best position for you," he added

The post Pirastro Releases New KorfkerSpring® Chin Rest System appeared first on World's Leading Classical Music Platform.

]]>
With the KorfkerSpring, Pirastro has added a new product to their Korfker line: the first ever flexible chin rest.

The spring at the heart of this new, patented invention offers freedom of movement and release of upper body tension.

The PIRASTRO KorfkerSpring fits 3/4 and 4/4 violins, as well as violas, weighs only 15 grams and is made of high-end, tone-optimized materials. Its chin plate allows for precise personal adjustments of rotation, tilt, and pitch, and is made from hardened Swiss Maple.

The KorfkerSpring can be center or side mounted and includes 6 different springs which enable height adjustment of 25–50 mm in 5 mm increments.

"As a result of a lifetime of playing and teaching I came to the conclusion that to help us develop a more natural and dynamic interaction with our instruments, the chin rest should actually be flexible," inventor and product developer Berent Korfker shared.

"Unlike traditional concave chin rests, the chin plate of the KorfkerSpring is convex and highly adjustable. Its ridge provides control during shifting and vibrato. It also subtly invites a lengthening of the spine." he added. "The flexibility of the spring at the heart of the PIRASTRO KorfkerSpring awakens the innate balancing system in our neck and upper body which, while present in everyone, is often dormant or suppressed. What I personally cant get enough of is how my violin sounds and responds when I play with the KorfkerSpring. It unlocks a freedom of sound and liveliness in string response that I always knew existed but was simply out of reach with a conventional chin rest."

The new PIRASTRO KorfkerSpring® will be available starting from December 2025 and comes in a high-end protective case.

Travel Friendly Violin Bows, "Divi:de," Out Now https://theviolinchannel.com/new-travel-friendly-violin-bows-now-available/ Fri, 21 Nov 2025 12:14:13 +0000 https://theviolinchannel.com/?p=225725 […]

The post Travel Friendly Violin Bows, "Divi:de," Out Now appeared first on World's Leading Classical Music Platform.

]]>
Newly launched, divi:de was created by violinist Eszter Haffner in partnership with Gabriel Bania as a solution for traveling violinists wishing to carry their bows more efficiently while in transit.

Bania is a baroque violinist and inventor, who is best known for creating the Trinity Violin Travel Set, which has helped thousands of violinists avoid problems when flying by disguising the bow when packed.

"We felt the need to create the divi:de bow and the divi:de flight case, because we saw a very real problem that almost every traveling string player faces: our bows don’t fit into cabin-size luggage, and airlines are becoming stricter every year," Haffner told The Violin Channel. "As musicians, we are asked to be flexible, innovative, and mobile, yet our most essential tools were still designed for a world that didn’t include modern travel restrictions."

With divi:de, the violin bow can now be divided and packed in parts when traveling. When reassembled, playing can resume and with no artistic compromises.

"The divi:de bow was born from the desire to give musicians freedom: freedom from stress at the airport, freedom from damaging or checking valuable bows, and freedom to travel light without compromising sound, balance, or playability," Haffner added. "We wanted to create a bow that respects the traditions of our craft, but embraces the realities of our lives today. So the motivation was simple: to solve a problem I personally experienced hundreds of times, and to offer a reliable, elegant, and beautifully engineered solution for musicians everywhere."

The divi:de bows are available here in five models with customizable finishes. Several models of cases for the bows are also available.

With over 30 years of performance experience, Haffner has made countless journeys across airports, borders, and time zones. Divi:de reflects her knowledge of the realities of a musician’s life on the move.

"As a traveling musician, the divi:de bow has genuinely changed my life," said Haffner. "Before, every trip involved the same stressful ritual: worrying whether my violin case would fit into the cabin rule or negotiating with airline staff. It was exhausting, unpredictable, and completely unnecessary stress on performance days. With the divi:de bow, all of that disappeared.

"Now I can pack my bow safely inside my hand luggage, no questions asked, no confrontations at the gate, no fear of being forced to check in a valuable Violin. I travel lighter, move faster, and feel far more relaxed. In short: it has made traveling simpler, safer, and stress-free — and that freedom is priceless for a musician constantly on the move."

“The divi:de bow combines for me the long-awaited and desired seemingly impossible solution of the ‘too long and too heavy violin case’ problem and a great musical instrument,” said VC Artist Sergey Malov. “The response, playability, and weight distribution are excellent. The look is amazing. A visionary concept and masterful finishing. A must have!”

The post Beares Publishing Releases “Antonio Stradivari: The Complete Works” appeared first on World's Leading Classical Music Platform.

]]>

To mark the Italian luthier Antonio Stradivari’s 380th birthday anniversary, Beares Publishing, in partnership with London’s J. & A. Beare, has released its new book, Antonio Stradivari: The Complete Works

Published in six volumes, it is the most extensive collection of Stradivari’s masterpieces ever assembled and will allow all violin experts, including instrument dealers, researchers, and collectors, equal access to an invaluable archive.

Born in 1644 in Cremona, Italy, Antonio Stradivari is universally hailed as the most influential violin maker in history. By his death in 1737 at age 93, he had crafted over 1000 instruments, hundreds of which survive to this day.

The Complete Works features 845 meticulously researched provenances alongside full-color photos of each instrument and rare archival images.

This collection represents nine years of research by John Dilworth and Duane Rosengard, who were granted exclusive access to privately held archives for their purposes. The book was authored by Simon Morris and Steven Smith, and edited by Mark Gunn and Anna Saldadzé

Instruments in The Complete Works include 736 violins, 14 violas, and 69 cellos — featuring their respective labels, chronological origins, ownership, dating of the wood, certificates, and dimensions. The book also includes Stradivari’s six guitars, two mandolins, a lute front, a bow, one harp, and one pochette.

To purchase Antonio Stradivari: The Complete Works, click here. The book is available as a Deluxe Edition and as a Library Edition.

The collection includes over 200 more instruments than any prior publication, making it an indispensable resource for modern experts, players, and collectors to deepen their understanding of Stradivari’s craft and legacy.

Notably, the book traces the passage of Stradivari’s string instruments through the hands of patrons and players across different countries over hundreds of years.

Additionally, The Complete Works is an insight into how the violin dealing business has expanded worldwide from its origins in Europe — and the socio-economic shifts of the past three centuries, from aristocratic patrons to modern collectors.

This book also comes as new technologies and rising market demand present new opportunities and challenges; non-invasive scientific tools have enhanced the study of Stradivari’s techniques, while the increasing value of his instruments has raised the stakes for expertise, authenticity, and provenance.

“This publication is a must-have for anyone with a serious interest in fine instruments and the art of violin making,” violinmaker Robert Brewer Young said. “It is a testament to the enduring influence of Stradivari’s genius, and a vital resource for understanding his instruments’ remarkable journeys through time.”

Invented by Berent Korfker, the PIRASTRO KorfkerRest Luna is now available for viola! Made from a proprietary sound-optimized synthetic material, it is an ultra-light shoulder rest that has been designed both ergonomically and acoustically.

"At Pirastro the original sound and sensitivity of your instrument are sacred," Berent Korfker told The Violin Channel.

"Allowing the character and quality of an instrument’s sound to be heard unimpeded is what we call offering fidelity of sound and trueness of timbre."

The new KorfkerRest Luna for viola weighs the same as our wooden viola KorfkerRest, only 40 grams. Like the violin model it offers solid stability and folds up into an ultra-compact shape. It fits all full-size violas from 222-258mm wide.

A set of differently sized and interchangeable barrel legs is provided, which once clicked in, become an integral and secure part of the rest, enabling subtle positioning closer to the shoulder or the chest. Designed to be instantly comfortable, the rounded shape of the PIRASTRO KorfkerRest Luna’s cross-section naturally fits the body’s curves and eliminates the need for any tilt adjustment. The two soft pads focus the instrument's contact with the body in two areas, shoulder and chest, avoiding the collar bone.

The shoulder rest pack includes 8 barrel legs, 2 rubber pads, extra O-rings, and a protection bag (100% organic cotton, GOTS certified). A printed instruction manual will help users to get acquainted quickly with their new shoulder rest.

You can read more about the new Pirastro KorfkerRest Luna for viola in this interview with Berent Korfker, and on Pirastro's website.

Oxford University Press has released “The Oxford Handbook of Queer and Trans Music Therapy” (QTMT), which celebrates queer, trans, bisexual and gender nonconforming identities and “the spontaneous creativity that is at the heart of queer music-making.”

Exploring the emerging queer and trans issues in music therapy, the handbook involves contributions from diverse leaders in the field, plus includes extensive audio and video content to supplement its text.

The book covers various topics under six subsections: historical contexts; practice; education and supervision; theory, philosophy, and musicology; research; and identity, advocacy, and activism.

Edited by Colin Andrew Lee, Professor Emeritus at Wilfrid Laurier University, the book’s authors also include Mason Gibson, Simon K. Gilbertson, Avi Gilboa, Vee Gilman, kei slaughter, Jill Halstead, Elly Scrine, Uri Aronoff, and many others.

QTMT is an emerging and rapidly evolving approach in today’s music industry and questions perspectives from cisheteronormative traditions that have dominated the field.

In this respect, “The Oxford Handbook of Queer and Trans Music Therapy” discusses sociopolitical issues that challenge music therapy as a dominantly white, heteronormative, and cisgendered profession.

This handbook further examines what it means to create queer and trans spaces in music therapy, and provides open discourse on the need for change and new beginnings.

To purchase and read the handbook, click here.

“The therapists, musicians and artists included in this book collectively embody and represent a range of theory, research and practice that are central to the essence and core values of QTMT,” wrote Oxford University Press in the book description. “Music as a therapeutic force has the potential to transform us in unique and extraordinary ways. In this book music and words are presented as innovative equals in describing and evaluating QTMT as a newly defined approach.”
