Pirastro Releases New KorfkerSpring® Chin Rest System
Developed by Berent Korfker, the chin rest will be available for both violin and viola in December, weighing in at only 15 grams
With the KorfkerSpring, Pirastro has added a new product to their Korfker line: the first ever flexible chin rest.
The spring at the heart of this new, patented invention offers freedom of movement and release of upper body tension.
The PIRASTRO KorfkerSpring fits 3/4 and 4/4 violins, as well as violas, weighs only 15 grams and is made of high-end, tone-optimized materials. Its chin plate allows for precise personal adjustments of rotation, tilt, and pitch, and is made from hardened Swiss Maple.
The KorfkerSpring can be center or side mounted and includes 6 different springs which enable height adjustment of 25–50 mm in 5 mm increments.

"As a result of a lifetime of playing and teaching I came to the conclusion that to help us develop a more natural and dynamic interaction with our instruments, the chin rest should actually be flexible," inventor and product developer Berent Korfker shared.
"Unlike traditional concave chin rests, the chin plate of the KorfkerSpring is convex and highly adjustable. Its ridge provides control during shifting and vibrato. It also subtly invites a lengthening of the spine." he added. "The flexibility of the spring at the heart of the PIRASTRO KorfkerSpring awakens the innate balancing system in our neck and upper body which, while present in everyone, is often dormant or suppressed. What I personally can’t get enough of is how my violin sounds and responds when I play with the KorfkerSpring. It unlocks a freedom of sound and liveliness in string response that I always knew existed but was simply out of reach with a conventional chin rest."
The new PIRASTRO KorfkerSpring® will be available starting from December 2025 and comes in a high-end protective case.
