The Bravo! Vail Music Festival in Colorado was founded in 1987 by executive director John Giovando and founding artistic director Ida Kavafian. The next Artistic Director will succeed pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, who has led Bravo! Vail for the past 13 years

Now, the Festival is seeking its next artistic director to lead the organization into the future, creating high-quality and varied programs to promote the Festival’s mission, vision, and values.

If successful, the candidate will become the Festival’s fourth artistic director in its history and have the chance to guide the series to new heights of artistic achievement and international renown.

For six weeks of the year, the Bravo! Vail Music Festival brings world-renowned musicians to venues throughout the Vail and Eagle River Valley region. This year, Bravo! Vail marked its 38th season with more than 80 concerts — over half of which were presented for free.

The artistic director will collaborate closely with Bravo! Vail’s president and CEO and artistic administrator, and maintain a close partnership with the Chair of the Board of Trustees.

The Meadowmount School of Music is seeking a new Executive Director. This position is largely hybrid, with the expectation that the successful candidate will live at the Meadowmount School of Music in Westport, from early June until the third week of August. Housing is provided.

The Executive Director manages operational aspects of the summer program and serves as the chief fundraiser for Meadowmount throughout the year. The successful candidate will be able to engage current and potential donors and develop a strategy for diversifying and expanding the organization’s funding base.

In addition, the Executive Director must be an excellent communicator, someone who is able to understand and uphold the values and traditions of Meadowmount while propelling the artistic and educational vision of the school through the 21st century.

The salary for this position is $80-95,000, depending on experience. There is a provision for 30 days of PTO, and full health insurance is provided.

The Klein Competition of the California Music Center is seeking a new Executive Director, following the news that Marcy Straw has resigned from the role after six years' service.

Based in San Francisco, the Klein Competition has run for more than 37 years and offers more than $30,000 total prize money for the world's best young string players. A number of notable musicians have won prizes at the Klein, including Jennifer Koh, Tessa Lark, and Nikki Chooi.

The Executive Director will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the Klein Competition, in conjunction with the Artistic Director. Responsibilities will include fundraising, marketing, event production, and financial management, as well as the managing of relations with both the board and competition alumni.

The position is part-time at approximately 0.5 FTE (non-exempt), and will be compensated at a rate of $40 per hour. The nature of the work is somewhat seasonal and increases during the month of June, when the competition is held — but on average is about 20 hours per week.

The candidate should live in the San Francisco Bay Area, where local events will take place, though much of the work can be undertaken at home.

The School of Music at Yale University, in New Haven, Connecticut, is seeking to appoint a new Dean. Based in New Haven, Connecticut, the school is one of the most sought-after institutions for classical music in the world.

The successful candidate will be appointed by the president of the college and will report to its provost. The applicant must be capable of visionary leadership and must possess the collaborative skills to coordinate the school's highly skilled and dedicated faculty.

While the Yale School of Music has a strong focus on high-level performance music, it also sits within a world-class research university. The school is seeking a new President and CEO, in association with the Aspen Leadership Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for all of the school's day-to-day operations and will report to its Board of Directors to ensure that all members of the wider community have access to high-quality music education.

The President and CEO will be responsible for managing the school's ninety staff members and will support them in putting on more than 120 public performances per year. In addition, they will foster the school's community outlook, ensuring that all feel welcome and heard and see themselves and their culture represented in the School's work.

Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree, and should have at least five years' experience managing a sizeable staff — with evidence that they have developed their previous institution.

A major performing arts organization, the Detroit Opera includes a professional orchestra, choruses, resident artist program, and over 100 staff and contracted personnel. The opera company’s fiscal year 2024 operating budget is $16 million.

The next president and CEO of Detroit Opera will succeed Wayne S. Brown, who has served the role since 2014. Brown will step down at the end of his current contract or until a successor is appointed.

To work alongside Detroit Opera’s award-winning artistic director Yuval Sharon, the successful candidate will be responsible for increasing the reach of the company nationally and abroad, and innovating future plans for the Detroit Opera House, which includes a 2700-seat theater, a black box theater, education studios, plus special event and public gathering spaces.

The role is seeking a candidate with thorough working knowledge of opera and all the performing arts as both a producer and a presenter. Other responsibilities include overseeing the company’s operations and personnel such as fundraising and public relations.

Including a comprehensive benefits package, the remuneration of the role is competitive and will be determined according to relevant qualifications and experience.

Founded in 1997, the Sphinx Organization is a U.S. non-profit supporting the development of young Black and Latinx classical musicians. Recently celebrating its 25th anniversary, it also hosts an annual competition and conference to showcase America’s emerging talents. 

Sphinx’s Director of Major Gifts will be responsible for connecting current and prospective individual donors with Sphinx’s initiatives and its mission — creating social change through diversity in the arts. 

This senior-level position will involve a salary in the low $100,000 range, as well as full employer-paid benefits. Sometimes requiring long hours and travel (with a focus on Detroit and New York), the role offers the flexibility of remote working.

Other duties of the position include maintaining and increasing the annual major donor portfolio of $3 million, managing all notices related to Board meetings and other events, plus distributing and drafting Board notices and updates.

Silkroad, a not-for-profit music organization founded by cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 1998, is seeking a new Executive Director. The organization's flagship initiative is the Silkroad Ensemble, a touring group of musicians from across the globe whose aim is to co-create a new artistic idiom based on their differing musical styles.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading Silkroad's work at the local, national, and international levels. They will oversee strategic coherence, programmatic integration, financial sustainability, and administrative effectiveness, and will be responsible for the organization's overall strategy.

Candidates should have at least ten years of experience working in management in the nonprofit sector, preferably at a music or social impact organization. They should also have proven experience in fundraising, donor stewardship, and staff development, as well as proven leadership and diplomacy skills.

Since 1999, Michael Haefliger has served as executive and artistic director of the Lucerne Festival and will be stepping down in 2025. The festival’s global effort to search for an internationally distinguished and networked figure has already begun. .

Founded in 1938, the Lucerne Festival is a leading presenter of classical music ranging from the canonical repertoire to the present. The core of the festival is the annual summer festival, which takes place in August and September with around 100 events. 

To begin their tenure in 2026, the successful candidate will be responsible for the continued development and execution of strategy in cooperation with the Board of Trustees, plus management of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Academy, Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, and potential new projects.

The minimum education level is a Master’s degree and the minimum experience level in similar roles is no less than 10 years. It is hoped that the successful candidate will be available for several years in this role.

Requirements for the role include high leadership and artistic skills, business competency, fluency in German both written and spoken, and an academic education in music plus cultural management, economics, or law.

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera (CSO) is seeking to appoint a new Music Director, who will craft a dynamic, engaging, and culturally relevant future for the organization.

Alongside directing the CSO's already-established orchestra, the new Music Director will be responsible for the repertoire, programming, and artistic production for the organization's emerging opera company, as well as its four youth orchestras.

The Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra (SYSO) is seeking a new Executive Director, to begin in early 2023.

The SYSO is one of America's largest youth orchestras, with more than 1800 young people taking part in six different orchestras each year. Many of its graduates have gone on to notable careers, including three members of the Kronos Quartet.

The program is co-led by the Executive Director and the current Music Director, Juan Felipe Molano. The successful applicant will manage the organization's annual operating budget of $2.2 million and will report to a governing board of 15 members.

The SYSO's finances, administration, leadership, and personnel are all the responsibility of the Executive Director. Because of the variety of the role, the candidate will need to have proven skills in all these areas, as well as a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The remuneration for this position is $115-130k depending on experience, with healthcare and retirement also part of the package.
