We're coming to you LIVE from Los Angeles, California, for a special recital presented by The Colburn School featuring violinist Ray Ushikubo. This event marks Ushikubo's debut on the c. 1741 “Playfair” violin, an instrument of Bartolomeo Giuseppe Guarneri “del Gesù,” crafted in Cremona, Italy. The instrument is currently on loan to Ushikubo from Colin Maki Inc.

The violin, one of only around 250 crafted by Guarneri, is named after Elsie Playfair, who acquired it from W. E. Hill and Sons in 1909. Playfair, who was mostly based in Paris, was a prominent soloist and appeared with the Berliner Philharmoniker on several occasions.

Both a violinist and a pianist, Ray Ushikubo has appeared as a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Winston-Salem and Portland Symphony Orchestras, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Dream Orchestra, Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, and the Colburn Orchestra. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and is presently studying at the Colburn School.
