Julia Fischer's Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Dresden Philharmonic
Enjoy this live recording from a concert at the Kulturpalast Dresden in 2017
Deutsche Welle's classical music department has recently released a live recording of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, featuring soloist Julia Fischer with the Dresden Philharmonic and conductor Michael Sanderling. The concert took place in April 2017 in the Kulturpalast Dresden.
Born in Munich in 1983, Fischer learned both the violin and the piano in childhood. From the age of nine, she studied the violin with Ana Chumachenco, and later became her successor at the University of Munich. Fischer's solo career began in 1995 when she won the International Yehudi Menuhin Competition.
She has appeared solo with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, Orchestre National de France, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, and the Warsaw Philharmonic, among others.
In 2011, she founded the Julia Fischer Quartet alongside Alexander Sitkovetsky, Nils Mönkemeyer, and Benjamin Nyffenegger.
Fischer plays on two violins, one ancient and one modern: the first was made by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini in 1742, while the second was made by Philipp Augustin in 2018.
